LITURGICAL MINISTRIES
Lectors.
The proclamation of the Word of
God at Mass is central to our celebration. When the Scriptures
are read in the Church, God himself speaks to his people. Those
who serve as readers must be clear, understandable and
knowledgeable about the scripture being read. Lectors are people
who have a love for scripture. Those interested in this ministry
should contact Sue Niemi at
susan.niemi@marquette.edu
or 414-446-8358.

Eucharistic Ministers.
Eucharistic ministers, or
extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, assist in the
distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ during Mass. As
ministers of Holy Communion, one is also called to be especially
observant of Jesus’ command to love one’s neighbor in day to day
living. Those who serve in this ministry need to be fully
initiated members of the Church; that is, they must have
received the sacraments of baptism, confirmation and Eucharist.
Those interested in this ministry should contact Sue Niemi at
susan.niemi@marquette.edu
or 414-446-8358.

Ushers.
Ushers, or Ministers of Hospitality, have
a special role of welcoming those who enter the church. They
enhance our worship by welcoming people, seating them, taking up
the collection, assisting anyone who may become ill, and
distributing parish bulletins. Their hospitality is centered in
the hospitality of Christ since we all come as invited guests of
Christ himself. Thus, ushers need to be welcoming, friendly
people. If you are interested in becoming one of our ushers,
contact Jerry Loberger at 262-253-1787.
Servers.
Servers assist the priest during Mass and
may also carry the cross, the candles, and the thurible. They
also help in the preparations before Mass. By its nature, this
is a ministry that supports or assists other ministries. A good
server knows the flow and movement of the liturgy well enough to
anticipate the needs of the priest or other ministers. This is a
ministry that is open to both children and adults. Those
interested in this ministry should contact the parish office or
Reneé Steger at 262-238-0727.

Music ministry.
Music assists those who come to worship to
express and share our gift of faith. Music is a needed dimension
of our worship every time we gather. All those involved in music
ministry, whether as a cantor, choir member or instrumentalist,
are present at liturgy to support the assembly in song. If you
have a special gift for music, contact our Director of Liturgy
and Music, Jim Stout at 414-365-2020, ext. 16.
Sacristans.
Sacristans help with the
preparations before Mass. These tasks may include lighting
candles, making sure the bread and wine are on the gift table,
preparing the chalice, plates and cups, etc. Sacristans are
needed for weekday and weekend Masses. If you are interested in
being trained for this ministry, contact the parish office.
Art and Environment
Committee. This group is
responsible for the overall decorating of the church. Many
opportunities are available in this ministry. Participants may
help plan, prepare the decorations (sewing, flower arranging,
etc.), or assist in physically decorating the church for one or
more liturgical seasons. Volunteers may choose to assist as
often as fits their schedule. For more information call Judy
Laczniak at 262-252-3081 or
jlaczniak@milwpc.com or Jean
Sorenson at 355-6751 or
Jncks2002@aol.com.
CATECHISTS AND CLASSROOM
AIDES
Catechists
serve in a very important ministry. Next to the parents of our
children, they are given the task of promoting knowledge of the
faith. They help our children to know the traditions and
scripture of the Catholic Church, which lets students encounter
Christ at a level appropriate for them to grasp. Catechists and
their aides live their faith and show by example how to be true
disciples of Christ. This ministry is open to all adults of the
parish. Experience is helpful but not necessary. We will guide,
educate and support you in your endeavor. In addition, because
this is a ministry in which one works with children, the
completion of a short sexual abuse awareness training session on
protecting God’s children is required by the Archdiocese within
90 days of your beginning date of volunteering.
Grade School
Catechists/Aides.
Our grade school program meets on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 -
7:45 p.m. There are approximately 24 sessions during the year.
High School
Catechists.
Our high school program consists of 6-week mini-courses. Most
often these meet on Sunday evenings, 6:30 - 8 p.m., but can be
scheduled according to a catechist’s availability. Catechists
are able to choose from a number of topics. Program materials
are provided.
Confirmation
Preparation.
Our confirmation sessions are held every other Sunday morning,
9:15 - 10:20 a.m., September through early May.
HIGH SCHOOL CHAPERONES
A chaperone is
an adult leader who accompanies high school students for their
outings ranging from service experiences to retreats. A
chaperone at a retreat also serves as small group leader. For
other outings such as a service experience, chaperones help to
provide transportation for the students. To be a chaperone you
must be at least 21 years of age. For all outings as a group, a
chaperone is a must. Chaperones are briefed before the event
takes place. Like catechists and aides, chaperones need to
attend sexual abuse awareness training as required by the
Archdiocese.
ST. VINCENT DE PAUL
Inspired by Gospel values, the Society of St.
Vincent de Paul, a Catholic lay organization, leads women and
men to join together to grow spiritually by offering
person-to-person service to those who are needy and suffering.
Members, who are known as Vincentians, are united in an
international society of charity by their spirit of poverty,
humility and sharing. Our St. Catherine conference maintains our
food pantry which is open every other Friday morning. They also
respond to those who are in need. They meet weekly on Tuesday
evenings. If you are interested in learning more about St.
Vincent de Paul, contact Jerry Loberger at 262-253-1787.
VISITORS TO THE SICK, NURSING HOME
RESIDENTS AND HOMEBOUND
We extend the compassion of Christ to those
who are unable to join us here at church. Those involved in this
ministry can simply visit with people. Or, they may take
communion as well. Some who visit nursing homes also lead
communion services at times. If you would like more information
about this ministry, contact our deacon, Dan Zozakiewicz at
414-355-3902.
BEREAVEMENT MINISTRY
Bereavement Ministry is a group of
parishioners who minister to those in the parish who have lost a
loved one. They attend the funeral and stay in touch with the
family for a year following death. They also hope to expand
their ministry to include other kinds of losses such as divorce
and unemployment. Contact our deacon, Dan Zozakiewicz at
414-355-3902 if you are interested in this ministry.
FUNERAL RECEPTION HOSPITALITY
The Granville Room is available to families
who would like to hold a funeral luncheon or dinner at church
immediately following a funeral. Those involved serve a meal the
family has catered. Others are also needed to provide desserts
for the meal. If you are interested in helping in this area,
contact Rita Blank at 262-502-9991.
RIDES TO MASS
Individuals who are not able to make it to
Mass on their own can make use of this service provided by other
parishioners. Those who provide transportation to and from
church can do so weekly or on a less frequently scheduled basis.
For more information, contact Ken Laczniak at 262-252-3081.
INTERFAITH FOR OLDER ADULTS
St. Catherine is a sponsor of the Granville
Interfaith for Older Adults. This program assists older adults
by helping them with transportation needs and shopping,
escorting them to doctor visits, running errands for them and
doing minor home repairs. Some people simply need someone to
visit them. Others need regular check-in phone calls just to
make sure they are doing okay. Because Interfaith is sponsored
by churches, there is no charge for these services. If you would
like more information, call the Interfaith office at
414-353-0731. Also, if you know someone who could benefit from
these services, call the Interfaith office as well. They will
match the individual with a volunteer(s).
ST. GALL MEAL PROGRAM
St. Catherine parishioners are responsible
for providing and serving dinner at the St. Gall Meal Program on
the 4th Monday of each month. If you would like to supply
something on the menu and/or help serve at St. Gall, contact
Delores Neveux at 414-357-7196 for more information.
SENIORS GROUP
Our senior citizen group meets during the
afternoon the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month in our
Granville Room. This group loves to play cards, although they
occasionally take trips. To learn more about the group, contact
their president, Phyllis Vosswinkel at 414-354-9420.
HOLY NAME SOCIETY
The Holy Name Society of St. Catherine is our
men’s group. It meets for a breakfast meeting in our gym on the
second Sunday of each month. All men of the parish are invited
to join them. Contact Augie Zanowski at 414-354-8599 for more
information.
COFFEE AND DONUT SUNDAY
Coffee and Donuts are served after both
Sunday Masses on the first Sunday of each month. These are
sponsored by our Parish Life Committee. If you would like to
help host these, even on occasion, contact Kathy Lucas at
414-354-2153.
PARISH SOCIALS
Socials such as a parish picnic and chili
supper are held several times a year. Contact Kathy Lucas at
414-354-2153 if you would like to help with these.
BUILDING AND GROUNDS COMMITTEE
This committee is a sub-committee of the
Administrative Services Committee. It is responsible for the
physical conditions of parish property, its maintenance and
upkeep. Contact Dallas Wytonick at 414354-6880 for more
information.
